About the role

We are seeking an accomplished and visionary Chief Data Officer (CDO) to lead our remote Data department. This senior leadership role is pivotal in shaping our data strategy, governance, and analytics capabilities to drive business growth and innovation. The CDO will be responsible for establishing a data-driven culture, managing our data assets as a strategic advantage, and ensuring data integrity, security, and compliance across the organization. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of data architecture, advanced analytics, machine learning, and data governance frameworks. They will be a strategic thinker with a proven track record of building and leading high-performing data teams in a remote environment, translating complex data insights into actionable business strategies, and influencing stakeholders at all levels.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Information Systems, or a related quantitative field.
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in data management, analytics, or related fields, with at least 7 years in a senior leadership role.
  • Proven experience building and scaling data teams and infrastructure in a fast-paced, remote-first environment.
  • Expertise in data governance, data quality, data security, and regulatory compliance frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of modern data architectures (e.g., cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, GCP), data warehousing, and ETL processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex data insights into clear, concise, and actionable business recommendations for executive stakeholders.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to influence and persuade at all organizational levels.
  • Experience with advanced analytics, machine learning methodologies, and their practical application in business.

Preferred qualifications

  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in a quantitative field.
  • Experience with specific industry-leading data tools and platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks, Tableau, Power BI).
  • Certification in relevant data governance or cloud data platforms.
  • Track record of driving significant business impact through data-driven initiatives.
  • Experience in a rapidly evolving tech or digital native company.
  • Knowledge of MLOps and DataOps principles.
